Herramientas para prácticas de campo

Durante mis estudios de licenciatura en la Facultad de Ciencias UNAM, me pude dar cuenta que estábamos frente a un cambio, una nueva forma de estudiar y generar conocimiento, sobre todo cuando se trataba de las prácticas de campo y cuándo escribía la tesis. Poniendo un poco de contexto les puedo contar que estudiar biología no solo es saberse los nombres científicos en ese formato de nomenclatura binomial que el famoso Linneo nos heredó (Genero y especie), si no que estudiar biología significa horas dedicadas a teoría, prácticas de laboratorio y un reforzamiento de los conocimientos en el campo.

Una vez entendido esto se imaginarán que salir al campo es lo más anhelado de todo estudiante de biología y biólogos, para poder convivir con la naturaleza y encontrarse a algún "bicho raro". Sin embargo algo cambiaba cada vez que salíamos, sobre todo en el peso de las maletas, ya que en un principio eran microscopios tan antiguos como los que usó Alexander Fleming para descubrir la penicilina, por así decirlo, redes de pescador, redes de mariposa, palos y pico de minero, frascos, alcohol a diferentes porcentajes entre otras soluciones químicas, tapas, vernier, bitácora, lápiz, etc, en fin una lista que va entre 15 y 30 artículos que se repartían entre los integrantes del equipo y que cargabas por el terreno a explorar para tenerlo a mano.

Estos artículos en la actualidad se han reducido en algunos casos a aplicaciones, gadgets y teléfonos inteligentes que no solo hacen más interesante estudiar ciencia, sino que facilitan la portabilidad de un sin fin de instrumentos y así maximizar el tiempo y esfuerzo para explorar el ambiente. Como por ejemplo a continuación enlisto una serie de aplicaciones que utilizo con frecuencia cuando voy a acampar o cuando registro datos en la bitácora:

En cuanto a los gadgets hay que decir que estamos en la transición hacia ellos, por lo cual es muy difícil conseguirlos, por ejemplo: la ecocapsula; sin embargo ya existen algunas opciones como la botella de agua con filtro y el microscopio portátil para celular-un cuanto futurísticas, pero reales-, que les presento brevemente, ya que aún no son tan diversos para uso en biología, pero que seguro en un par de años los veremos en personas que hacen montañismo o camping.

During my undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Science I found out a new form to study and generate knowledge, specially when the purpose was about field practices and when I was writing the thesis. In context, I can tell that the study of biology is not only know scientific names in the binomial system that invented the famous Linneo (Genera and species), in fact they are hours about theory, laboratory practicals and a strengthening of knowledge in the field. 

Now you can imagine that have a practice of field for a student of biology and for the biologist in general is the most awaited, because it is important to us to be in contact with the nature, and if you find a "curius creature" you had a good day. However, every time I went to the field practice something had changed, particulary in the weight of the suitcase, because in the begining was a microscope as old as Alexander fleming's which he used to discover the penicillin, so to speak, fishing nets, butterfly nets, sticks and mining pick, flasks, alcohol at different porcentages and other chemical solutions, protective covers, vernier caliper, logbook, pencil, etc, and other things that in sum are 15 and 30 articles, all of these things were distributed in each of the team members to be accessible in the moment that we needed.

So many things in the actuality have been reduced to apps, gadgets and smartphones that not only make more interesting study science, but also facilitate portability and can be more productive in the field practice. For example I enlist and share with you some smarthphone apps that I used when I had gone to camping and field practice, and other times to recording data in the logbook:

As regards gadgets I can say that we are in the transitioning to them, because they are very difficult to obtain, for instance: the ecocapsule; however there are options like the filter bottle and the mini portable microscope for cell phone-futuristic and real-, that I will show you very fast because they are a few, initially not for biology implications.
